Steady Flight & Equilibrium

In Unaccelerated Straight and Level Flight, the sum of all forces is zero. Lift equals Weight and Thrust equals Drag. Any imbalance results in acceleration according to Newton's Second Law ($F = m \cdot a$). For instance, an excess of Thrust over Drag creates a positive forward acceleration.
